Whole Pet Veterinary Hospital Mountain Island and Whole Pet Veterinary Hospital Davidsonville Reviews

In November of 2021, we took our dog to Whole Pet Veterinary Hospital Mountain Island to get his knees injected with a new arthritis product called Synamid. The three injections cost $525.00. Dr. Laura added her "ordering fee" of $425.00 to the cost of the product. The cost of injecting the product, anesthesia fee, etc., was not enough of a profit. Needed to charge the "ordering fee".

On December 5, 2021, our dog Koal was taken for a bath to another Animal Hospital in Mint Hill, NC. Left that facility approximately 2:30 and on the way out, KOAL slipped and his back legs went out from under him. He immediately got back up but when we got home noticed that he was dragging his right rear leg. After that in the following days sometimes both legs would drag when he walked and sometimes no dragging could be noticed.

On December 10 we took KOAL to Dr. Rachel Khare at the Whole Pet Animal Hospital Mountain Island, in Charlotte, NC and saw Dr. Khare. Explained to Dr. Khare in detail, KOAL's history and what had happened causing him to currently be dragging one of his rear legs when he walks. Dr. Khare gave him a Chiropractic adjustment and I could hear his back make cracking noises as she did it. We reviewed the meds he was on and what he should take and she told me that acupuncture, if we wanted, should be done in four (4) treatments. She gave him no meds and no special instructions. Did not tell us how serious this could be.

After returning home and the following days KOAL continued to drag one of his rear legs at times, sometimes both and sometimes none. At no time were we advised that this could be a serious problem or that xrays, or anything else be administered. We tried to get KOAL back in the office prior to Christmas but the next available appointment with Dr. Khare was December 27, 2021.

Our beloved Koal

My wife and I both accompanied KOAL to Dr. Khare's office and when we arrived, KOAL did not attempt to get out of the car. Dr. Khare said she could treat him in the car (2013 Dodge Caravan with the rear seats removed). We took a stool sample that Dr. Khare had examined while we were there and told Dr. Khare that KOAL had stopped eating this past Thursday. That my wife was coaxing him to eat Cream of Rice with peanut butter blended in it. It was my understanding I had made a appointment for KOAL be given a Chiropractic adjustment and acupuncture on this visit. Dr. Khare never examined KOAL on this visit. She got in the rear of the car through the side door and put five needles in KOALs back, one in is left leg and one up around his neck. It took her almost a minute and a half. She left them there for fifteen minutes and had a assistant remove them. We asked Dr. Khare if she could check his blood while we were there and she stated that we only had a fifteen minute visit scheduled. To bring him back on Friday and she would take his blood (apparently wanted another visit charge). Told Dr. Khare about meds we were advised to give Koal for his discomfort but she did not agree. Dr. Khare NEVER touched or examined the dog on this visit.

We returned home with KOAL and discovered that KOAL could not get out of the car. He was paralyzed apparently from his efforts to get in the car to go to the vet. I was able to slide Koal out of the car on the ramp he used to get in the car (he was never a jumper). KOAL laid on scatter rugs that he liked behind the house and would sit up from time to time but never attempted to stand up. We finally realized that he could NOT get up and determined that we needed to take him to the emergency vet on Monroe Road in Charlotte.

While waiting in the parking lot to be seen by the Emergency Vet, KOAL died.

The closest Dr. Kahre came to touching KOAL on this visit was when she put the acupuncture needles in him. Had she examined him she could have determined that he was paralyzed. What total indifference. She is in the wrong business. Her only cares were that we fed him people food (as recommended by her partner Dr. Laura).

Dr. Khare is in the wrong business.
